Wodyetia bifurcata x Adonidia merrillii ‘golden’ (aka Christmastail Palm)

Common Name:  Wodyetia bifurcata x Adonidia merrillii ‘golden’ (aka Christmastail Palm)

Sun:  Mostly full sun (can handle full sun but any variegated leaflets tend to burn)

Growth Rate:  Moderate to Fast

Fertilizer:  Low

Water:  Low

Cold Tolerance:  25deg F

History:  A hybrid out of Nong Nooch Botanical Gardens in Thailand. Seedlings were brought State-side around 2006.

Production:
The pollen parent is Adonidia merrillii ‘Golden’ a cultivar from cultivation. The seed parent (mother) is Wodyetia bifurcata (Foxtail Palm) which is native to Australia. It was said to be very hard to produce with very low germination rate. Variegated specimens are slower growing, produce thinner trunks, and don’t like full sun as much.

Benefits:  A rarer version of the Foxy Lady Palm (Wodyetia x Veitchia) that is common only among collectors

Identification:  Looks just like the standard Foxy Lady Palm when young, but eventually has more erect leaves once older (from its Adonidia father).
