Lady Fox hybrid- as nice as the famous Foxy Lady?

Since we planted a flowering Veitchia arecina in the nursery for pollen production, we decided "Hey, why not hit it with Foxtail pollen to see if we can get a reverse hybrid?!?"
So, we pollinated our Veitchia arecina with Wodyetia pollen and got seed to set around 2022. These seeds yielded very sinister looking seedlings with black colorations on them- so we knew the hybrid had been successful..

These spikes turned into nice little seedlings with very wide leaflets that had a sort of "Cup" at the tips. They were fairly different from pure V. arecina seedlings which have narrower, longer leaflets. Here are the Lady Fox seedlings:

Unfortunately, the above seedlings died because we tried a new experiment by potting them up into Foxfarm Ocean Forest planting mix, which turned out to have way too many organic ingredients which caused rot and disease. This unfortunate mistake wiped out these seedlings, plus at least two other grexes that we had produced that year :(
Then, in 2025 we were able to produce a new batch of Lady Fox seedlings and they are all thriving. Two of them even came up variegated!

And these hybrids are probably the fastest-growing non-coccosoid hybrids we have ever produced! The palm pictured BELOW is about 5 months old from planted seed!

And it was very fortuitous that we ran into a mature palm in Homestead, Florida that the grower said was grown from seed collected from a Veitchia sp. but the seedling never looked quite like the rest of it's brothers and sisters. He surmised that it had received Wodyetia pollen and was a hybrid just like our little ones:

We are excited to offer these Lady Fox Hybrids in 3x8 Treepots in Fall of 2025 and we know they will be a very fast growing and fun hybrid to grow for the most discerning collector. Merry Christmas!
